Dear Families of Children enrolled in Orde Day Care FDK and School Age Programs

Below is an update on a number of items in preparation for your child’s return to daycare/school this week. I apologize for the delay of this communication but clarification on a few items still needed to be ironed out with the school before we could provide an update.

We hope this answer some of the questions that I have received to date

1. Care the week of September 14- 18

The TDSB has restricted our ability to offer full day care to children while the wait for their grade to start school.  Today is the last day of camp for all children Kindergarten to School age.

As of Tuesday, September 15,2020 we will be providing care for before and after for the following groups of children.

Tuesday, September 15 Senior Kindergarten and Grade 4

Wednesday, September 16 Junior and Senior Kindergarten and Grade 1 and 4

Thursday, September 17 All grades (JK- Grade 6)

  1. Hours of operation for fdk and school age children:

Orde Day Care FDK and School age program will run from 7:45 am-8:40 am and 3:00 pm/3:15 pm-5:30 pm.

  1.  Co-horting of FDK and School age children:

All kindergarten daycare children have been placed in two class rooms, room 5 and 6, for both instructional school and for our before and after school programs, to support the co horting requirement.

At this time the school will not be using room 25, 26 and 27. These rooms will be used for daycare only. 5 grade 1-6 classrooms will feed into the three school age rooms, but we will endeav to arrange our schedule to  limit the exposure of children from different classrooms.

We will try to spend as much time outside as possible to reduce the likelihood of transmission, increase physical distancing and give children a break from wearing a mask.

  1. Staggered entry and pick up:

To start the school year, we will not be providing our FDK and School age parents a drop off or pick up time (different than our summer program). However, we will monitor this new approach over the next few weeks to see if it is working or if we have to return to specific drop off and pick up times. Please ensure that if you are picking up at the end of the day that you arrive by 5:15 to allow yourself enough time, as there may be a line when you arrive to pick up.

  1. Drop off and Pick up area:

The drop off and pick up for all fdk and school age daycare children will be conducted in the small yard. (kindergarten yard) from 7:40- 8:30 a.m. in the morning and 4:00-5:30 in the afternoon.

We ask that you respect the markers indicated on the ground of the small playground as you wait for your child to gain entry into the daycare/school.

If your child comes after this time and children are in the yard, please do not come into the yard and ask one of the staff on duty to tell the school office that you have arrived. Please wait behind the temporary fencing just inside the small yard walkway

  1. Health screening form

The screening form will hopefully move online as of Tuesday, September 15 for all fdk and school age parents.
We ask the one family member who will be bring the child to daycare/school to complete this survey before 7:30 each morning.

The link will come from SURVEY MONKEY. Please check your junk or spam if you don’t see it. Please add to your favorites if it does go to your spam so you can find it each morning.

Upon arrival to the daycare we will confirm your online submission and then we will only be documenting the temperature readings of you and your child.

If you do not complete the online survey, we will conduct the entire screening form with you upon arrival.

If your child only attends our pm program (School age) or your child did not attend the morning program please ensure that you complete the Health screening by 9:00 am each day, otherwise we will contact you during the day to complete.

  1. Mask wearing- When school opens all children kindergarten age and older will be required to wear a mask during daycare hours inside even if physical distancing can be maintained ( this is slightly different than the direction we received on August 28, 2020 from Toronto Public Health in which children were only required to wear masks if physical distancing could not be maintained inside, or when in the communal areas such as the hallway).
  2. Lunches– The TDSB has restricted our ability to offer supervised lunch program for our school aged children Grade 1-6. As a result, we will be offering a bagged lunch to all children Grade 1-6 who are enrolled in our school age lunch program. If you are unsure if your child is registered in our lunch program or you did not indicate on the last survey that went out, please email us to confirm before your child is due to start school this week

We will be investigating our ability to provide bagged lunches to our kindergarten children, and will communicate more on this in the coming weeks.
