Dear Families of Orde Day Care;

Our Board of Directors met on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 to finalize our reopening plans.

The Orde Day Care location at 18 Orde St, will reopen for care on August 10, 2020, barring any unforeseen circumstances.  We have a maximum of 48 spaces available.  Toronto Public Health and the Ministry of Education have limited group sizes to a maximum of 10 individuals per room. In addition, there are requirements to the adherence of strict health and safety protocols for our centre. As a result, we will be limiting enrollment to a maximum of 24 children for the first two weeks of our re-opening.

The hours of operation will be from 8:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. to ensure that these strict guidelines are met.

Spaces will be made available based on the Readmission to Childcare Policy and Procedure which has been posted below for you to review.

Families who recently completed our short parent survey and indicated that either both parents or a parent in a lone parent family was an essential worker or were unable to work from home will be contacted by email or phone and be provided with specific details regarding their child’s readmission to the program.

We will also endeavour to continue to provide online zoom meetings for the children from both sites throughout the summer to maintain a connection with your child, their peers and our staff.

Details regarding child care for September are still unknown, as these will greatly impact the operation of the daycare, especially our before and after school kindergarten and school age programs. Once our Board of Directors has a solid understanding of the Toronto District School Board plans for school in the fall, we will communicate how we can continue to support families and children with their care needs.

The Orde Satellite Site date of reopening is planned for August 31, 2020 pending no further delays due to construction which is currently underway at this site. We will keep you posted of any changes which would ultimately affect the reopening date.

The hours of operation for this satellite location will be 8:00 a.m.-4:15 p.m.

When we are assured of the construction completion date, we will offer spaces based on the above noted policy and procedure.  We will contact families who expressed an interest in returning in the last parent survey and meet the priority criteria for space.   We will again be limited to a maximum of 24 spaces at this location.

I want to thank you for your continued support and patience. I recognize that it has been a very trying time for all, but especially so for those with children.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you,

Anna Gionet R.E.C.E.
Executive Director, Orde Day Care Centre

Readmission into Childcare Reopening Phase Policy and Procedure

Created: June 24,2020, revised July 7, 2020

Reference: Ministry of Education guidance June 10, 2020, Eligibility for Emergency Childcare Ontario Covid-19

Date Approved by the Board of Directors: July 7, 2020

Upon the reopening of childcare due to the closure from the Emergency Order, Orde Day Care must abide by limits to our enrollment outlined by Toronto Public Health and the Ministry of Education. The limiting of space requires Orde Day Care to make significant changes to our current admission policy and staff to child ratios.

Orde Day Care Centre will provide transparency and equity in the readmission of children into the childcare when space is limited.  Communication regarding our re enrollment process is key to ensuring a clear understanding of our process.

Priority for space for currently enrolled children upon reopening:

  1. Returning families, two parent or lone parent who are considered an essential workers as defined by the province at: https://www.ontario.ca/page/child-care-heatlth-care-and -front line-staff.
  2. Two parent families or lone parent families who cannot work from home with priority for space given to families of youngest aged children or a child requiring additional care needs i.e. a kindergarten aged child would be provided a space before a school aged child
  3. A two-parent family where one parent is a front line/ essential service worker and the other parent can work from home with priority for space given to the youngest aged children or a child requiring additional care needs i.e. a preschool child would be provided a space before a school aged child
  4. A lone parent family who can work/study from home or a two-parent family, of one parent is a student, other parent is employed, self employed or in school
  5. A two-parent family who can work/study from home

Date of Admission:

When all requirements for admission ie priority for work requirement and age of child are equal and the need for space exceeds our current capacity, the date of family’s admission into Orde Day Care will be used as a defining factor.

New Admissions during Reopening phase:

No new children will be admitted into the daycare during the reopening phase. Once all currently enrolled children are admitted into the daycare, any available spaces will follow our previous admission policy.
